Kites

The 'Regeling kabelvliegers en kleine ballons' (in Dutch) contains rules for launching kites in the areas marked on the map.

A kite is also a kite when used for kite-surfing or when attached to a boat, so generally speaking: no kites of what sort are allowed in Dutch FIR at a height above 100 metres.

Each type of aerodrome has specific procedures for kites. The map alongside shows the aerodromes. There are four types:

red:

controlled aerodrome.
Launching kites is prohibited within a distance of 5 kilometres of the border of a controlled aerodrome. Outside this area, they may be launched to a maximum height of 100 metres;
- blue: uncontrolled aerodrome.
Launching kites is prohibited within a distance of 3 kilometres of the border of an uncontrolled aerodrome. Outside this area, they may be launched to a maximum height of 100 metres;
- green: low flying area.
Launching kites is prohibited in a low flying area. Outside this area, they may be launched to a maximum height of 100 metres;
- yellow: low flying route.
Launching kites is prohibited within a distance of 5 kilometres of a low flying route. Outside this area, they may be launched to a maximum height of 100 metres.
